Standing Committees

OESCA is a volunteer, member-driven association and, as such, relies on its membership and staff, through the OESCA Executive and Standing Committees, to carry forward work in support of the association's mission and vision to provide access to high quality programs and services to all students in Ohio regardless of where they live and attend school.

Critical Issues Committee
Addressing Advocacy & Legislative Issues to ESCs  

Composition:

9 members (additional members may be added by a majority vote of the committee)

Role:

  • Study proposed legislation and make recommendations to the Executive Committee and/or membership.
  • Identify key legislative priority issues.
  • Create political action agenda.
  • Design and implement legislative action plan.
  • Market association to state level policymakers.
  • Make regular reports to Executive Committee.

Responsibilities:

  • Be an active member and participant.
  • Commit to meeting at least 4 times each year.
  • Support the legislative agenda and action plan of the organization.
  • Work to promote or defeat proposed legislation in accordance with established association positions.
  • Make regular reports to executive committee and to membership at annual meetings.

Aligned to OESCA Goal #4 - Build strategic partnerships to advance OESCA’s organizational priorities and to establish recognition of OESCA’s value by state policy makers, allied organizations, and key local and regional stakeholders.

Aligned to OESCA Goal #3 - Actively advocate to increase the capacity of member ESCs to provide cost-effective, quality services.

OESCA Communities

All Critical Issues Committee members are part of the Critical Issues Committee Community, where members can share resources, access minutes and meeting notes and ask questions.

Any ESC personnel interested in Legislative Issues can join the Legislative Community - a hub of updates and information on policy and legislative issues. This community offers a Legislative library of resources and the ability to ask questions and network with others.

Membership & Special Projects Committee
Engaging Members by Meeting Their Needs

Composition:

6 members (additional members may be added by a majority vote of the committee)

Role:

  • Maintain and Broaden Membership.

  • Track Membership and Make Recommendations for Improving Member Services.

  • Identify Alternative Revenue Sources.

  • Support Annual Conferences and Workshops.

  • Make Reports to Executive Committee.

  • Market Association to members, key regional and local stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Be an active member and participant.

  • Commit to meeting at least 4 times each year.

  • Make regular reports to executive committee and to membership at annual meetings.

Aligned to OESCA Goal #1 - Increase active membership in and support of OESCA by Ohio’s ESCs.

Public Relations & Marketing Committee
Striving to Promote Ohio ESCs

Composition:

The OESCA PR & Marketing Standing Committee is comprised of 9 members who volunteer to represent the 16 regions of the State. (Additional members may be added by a majority vote of the committee.

Role:
  • Advise on OESCA’s short and long-term communication, public relations and marketing planning
  • Promote the value of OESCA and ESCs to stakeholders
  • Develop communication guidelines, branding and network
  • Assess how OESCA can create value for ESC members and partners through communication
  • Communicate alignment of OESCA and ESC work to the Governor’s Education Plan, ODE Strategic Plan and other state-level policy priorities as necessary and appropriate 
Responsibilities:
  • Be an active member and participant.
  • Commit to attend at least 4 meetings per year.
  • Serve as a liaison between OESCA and each ESC as assigned.
  • Make regular reports to the executive committee and to membership at annual meetings

Any ESC personnel with communication responsibilities may join the Communicator Community - a hub of updates, resources and information to use in promoting the ESC network. This community offers templates and customizable resources and the ability to ask questions and network with others.
